Thanks to the public, we’ve successfully raised £27,000 with 414 donations towards our crowdfunding campaign to conserve and display the Solebay tapestry!

We’ve been blown away by your support and generosity, and we are delighted that the public have connected with the tapestry and recognise its historical and artistic significance.

With your help we have saved the Solebay Tapestry for future generations to come. We can now display this incredible tapestry and bring it home to Maritime Greenwich, enabling the public to experience the wonder of this unique tapestry up close at the Queen's House for the first time since its acquisition.

Our Director, Paddy Rogers, has this message for our supporters as we look ahead to the coming year:

'Dear Supporter, The first impression of the Solebay Tapestry is its imposing size, then the viewer is drawn in to its detail, quickly followed by its drama. The texture of textile weaves its magic! We at Royal Museums Greenwich are so pleased that it has caught you just as it does us, and that you have so enthusiastically supported the restoration. The next step is to come and view it, when the fruits of your support will be on display. Until we then meet, thank you for your support!’

Thanks to you we can now get to work on the conservation of the tapestry, and begin to confidently plan for its imminent display! This conservation would not have been possible without you, thank you for your invaluable support from all of us here at Royal Museums Greenwich. We look forward to sharing the result of this incredible campaign with you soon and can’t wait to welcome you to the Queen’s House to see this monumental work on display, as part of a landmark exhibition exploring the Van de Veldes’ contribution to the story of British art in 2023.
