This year 12 ambitious runners managed to raise just over £11,000, in support of Cutty Sark, by taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon and the Vitality Big Half.

In the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon there were six runners, who raised a total of £9,000. This money raised will be able to cover an entire half-term family programme -engaging children with poetry, literacy, science, engineering and technology - or a whole term of the ship’s formal schools programme.

In addition, we also had six runners in the Vitality Big Half in March. These runners raised an additional £2200, bringing the 2019 runners’ collective total to over £11,000. The ship offers bursaries to low income families in Greenwich, Lewisham, Bexley, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking and Dagenham – this additional money from the Big Half could reach up to 360 children who would not otherwise be able to participate in the learning programmes.

We would like to say an enormous thank you to the runners themselves, and all of those who generously supported them. This money raised goes towards the work the ship’s team deliver for schools, families and community groups.

Cutty Sark’s very essence of daring and adventure makes it perfect to align with personal challenges of running the Virgin Money London Marathon.
